Ongoing coronavirus developments have pushed the Kansas Corporation Commission to order utilities to continue payment plans and waive late fees.
The current order was issued in May and was set to expire New Year’s Eve. The KCC now has extended the order for electric, natural gas and water utilities under its jurisdiction until the pandemic is officially declared over.
The move is designed to help residential and small business customers avoid service disconnections. A decision on possibly restarting a prior order to suspend disconnections is awaiting a report and recommendation from KCC staff next month.
