The City of Emporia has entered into agreements with two companies seeking to expand their presence and help foster future development in the local community.
During their recent action session Wednesday evening the commission unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with Evergy after the utility purchased property at 600 Road 180 with intentions to build a service center at the location where the company plans to relocate all of its day-to-day operations in the near future. Per the agreement, the city will be responsible for expanding sanitary sewer lines and paving a section of road in the area for the center’s construction.
Evergy will then be responsible for reimbursing up to $360,000 of the city’s cost for those efforts. With that in mind, city commissioner Rob Gilligan referred to the project as a major win-win for the city.
Evergy anticipates completion of the project by the end of 2022 with an in-service date during the first quarter of 2023.
The second memorandum approved Wednesday dealt with the current Dynamic Distribution facility at 3601 W 6th Ave which will be purchased by Emporia Enterprises. Dynamic Discs is currently looking to relocate to the Detroit Reman Facility at 840 Overlander.
Per the MOU the city of Emporia will provide funding for the purchase with Enterprises to manage the property and market it for sale. All net proceeds from a potential sale will revert back to the city to offset the cost of the purchase.
Gilligan says once again this is a great investment for the city as it will allow one pre-existing business to continue to grow while providing an opportunity for new businesses to expand into the local community.
The total cost of the purchase for the Dynamic Distribution facility is $650,000.
