A second-half rally came up short for the Emporia State mens basketball team in an 82-78 loss to Lincoln Thursday night.
The Hornets trailed by 18 with 10 minutes to play before putting together a run that cut the deficit to 1 twice. They missed 4 shot attempts in the final 15 seconds that could have tied the game or given them the lead.
Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said there were a lot of positives.
The Hornets had a slow start to the game as Lincoln jumped out to an 11-0 lead.
Emporia State would use a 16-2 run to take their only lead with over 6 minutes to play in the first half at 29-27.
Emporia State lost their 2 leading scorers for the game with 37 seconds to play in the first half when Austin Downing and Jumah’Ri Turner were ejected for leaving the bench during an altercation on the floor.
Dallas Bailey led 5 players in double-figures with 13 points. Ben Smith added 12 points. Jumah’Ri Turner added 11 points. Mayuom Buom and Marquis McCray both finished with 10 points.
Lincoln was led by Sai Witt with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
Quinton Drayton also scored 19 points.
The Hornets are now 3-1 for the season.
They will play at Wichita State Friday night.
