Pfizer’s second shipment of its coronavirus vaccine to Kansas may be much less first thought.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment says the expectation of 28,000 doses in next week’s shipments to hospitals may actually be closer to 18,000. How this affects efforts at Newman Regional Health, Greenwood County Hospital and other hospitals across Kansas in their work to vaccinate their employees and then expand to long-term care facilities is currently unclear.
Other states, including Iowa, have said their vaccine allocations could be cut by 30 percent or more. National media outlets have said Pfizer is having supply chain issues while it is negotiating with the federal government to get more capacity. Other reports say there were errors in a tracking system that indicated more vaccines would be available to states than was actually the case.
