Lawmakers have approved a new COVID-19 stimulus and relief bill, and President Donald Trump is expected to sign it soon.
The $900 billion package passed both chambers in overwhelming fashion Monday night.
The bill includes $600 direct payments to Americans making $75,000 per year or less or married couples making $150,000 or less. Another $600 is coming for each dependent under age 18 living in the same household. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says that money could be direct deposited starting early next week.
The bill also includes $300 per week to people needing enhanced federal unemployment benefits through mid-March, $69 billion total for coronavirus testing and vaccine distribution, $25 billion in rental assistance, $15 billion for theaters and other live venues, $82 billion for local schools, colleges, and universities, and $10 billion for child care.
The measure would also provide more than $284 billion for businesses and would revive the Paycheck Protection Program, which expired over the summer.
