One person has been arrested after an alleged chase involving the Kansas Highway Patrol and deputies from two area sheriff’s offices.
The Coffey County Sheriff’s Office says emergency dispatch received a call of a reckless driver in the Burlington city limits. A deputy tried to stop the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Anthony Dimitt of Minneola, but the truck went north on Highway 75 and a chase developed.
The Highway Patrol says the pickup was northbound on US Highway 75 when it joined deputies from Coffey and Osage counties in the pursuit, which at times exceeded 100 mph. The agencies say they used stop sticks on several occasions and at least two tactical vehicle interventions, when a law enforcement vehicle bumps a suspect vehicle in an attempt to get it sideways and stopped, but Dimitt continued into Topeka before stopping near US-75 and 42nd Street in Topeka after trying unsuccessfully to drive through a culvert.
Coffey County deputies say the truck was stolen out of Wichita. Formal charges are pending.
