Scammers are at it again and this time they’re targeting customers of Evergy.
According to a recent news release from the utility, several customers have reported receiving calls from individuals claiming to be with the company. According to Evergy Spokesperson Gina Penzig, the callers are threatening to disconnect a customer’s service within 30 minutes unless the customer provides payment with a prepaid card.
Penzig says there are two major flaws in the scammer’s efforts, number one Evergy has already announced they are putting a pause on all disconnects through Mar. 1 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other contributing factors.

Penzig says if you receive a call such as this you should hang up immediately and either contact Evergy directly by calling 1-888-471-5275 or access your account online. If you believe you have been victimized by an identity theft scheme, report it online at www.ReportFraud.ks.gov.
