National Teachers Hall of Fame Director Carol Strickland is, in a word, “hopeful” heading into the new year.
Strickland joined KVOE’s Talk of Emporia Monday morning during which time she recapped what has been a difficult year for the Hall of Fame as well as education on a national scale. With the cancelation of the 2020 Hall of Fame induction ceremonies and major adjustments to the Hall of Fame’s schedule throughout the year, Strickland says they are setting the schedule for 2021 with an abundance of hope that things may begin to get back to some sense of normal in the coming months.
Strickland chose the term hopeful in lieu of “optimistic” as she feels there is still to much uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic as 2020 quickly prepares to draw to a close.
Strickland says she is currently looking into rescheduling the Hall of Fame Class trip from May to September of this year just as a precautionary step.
Strickland is hopeful this will be the only change to plans for 2021. As of now, Hall of Fame induction activities are still scheduled to take place in June for the 2020 class. There will be no 2021 Hall of Fame Class as Strickland has explained throughout the year in order to give the 2020 inductees their fair amount of time in the spotlight.
Applications for the 2022 National Teachers Hall of Fame Class will be available in February with those due back to the Hall of Fame by January of 2022, assuming the schedule has returned to normal by that point.
