Greenwood County fire crews responded to the same location near Eureka twice Saturday after a large grass fire developed just outside of town Saturday afternoon.
The fire was reported just after 12:45 pm in an area three miles southwest of the town. According to Greenwood County Fire Chief Doug Williams, the exact cause of the fire is unknown, however, there were some individuals building fence in the area.
Williams says likely indications are that a piece of equipment malfunctioned causing the fire. Fire fighters managed to extinguish the fire in about an hour and a half after roughly 250 acres of land had been scorched according to Williams.
Crews were then called back to the scene shortly after 5 pm as the fire began to rekindle and was approaching a canyon with an abundance of brush and leaves. Crews were able to put the fire out before it reached the canyon.
No injuries were reported and no damage occurred to any structures in the area according to Williams.
