Lyon County’s noncongregate housing option for people needing either isolation or quarantine due to COVID-19 is still being used.
At last word, there were seven people — five in isolation and two in quarantine — using the service. Lyon County Health Officer Renee Hively applauded the housing option on KVOE’s Morning Show recently.
Hively says there is no end date for the service currently, so people needing information or to use the special housing option can call the Public Health hotline at 620-208-3741.
The National Guard had been helping with noncongregate housing until last month. National Guard Director of Domestic Operations Lt. Col. Dallas McMullen says its presence at Lyon County’s noncongregate housing had been part of a broader — and evolving — support role for soldiers and airmen.
Noncongregate housing has been available since April. Hampton and La Quinta hotels both agreed to participate earlier this year, with the service now at an unspecified hotel. Residents needing isolation and quarantine are both at the hotel now, although they are on different floors.
Lyon County enters the week with 3,156 cases over the last nine months, 14th in the number of cases per county in Kansas according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. As of Friday, there were 112 active cases, 57 deaths and seven active hospitalizations.
