The cause and origination point of an early morning house fire Monday are currently under investigation by Emporia Fire.
Fire crews were called to the scene of a house fire at 1225 Exchange Street shortly before 7 am. According to Battalion Chief Ryan Conley flames and smoke were clearly visible on the rear side of the home upon their arrival.
The home in question is a single-family residence converted into an apartment facility with two units according to Conley. He says there was some smoke damage to the front unit the extent of which is unclear at this time.
Residents of the front unit were home at the time of the fire, however, no one was injured. The resident of the rear unit was not home a the time of the fire.
Emporia fire crews were assisted by Americus firefighters and the Reading Fire Drone Unit. The investigation is ongoing, stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for additional information as it becomes available.
7:33 am Monday: FIRE: No injuries reported after apartment fire in northeast Emporia
Emporia Fire is looking at the rear of an apartment home for clues as they investigate a structure fire from early Monday.
Firefighters went to 1225 Exchange after the fire was reported. Flames were visible on the back wall when crews arrived and the fire damage appears limited to the back apartment unit. Smoke damage is evident through the house.
No injuries have been reported. The resident in the back unit was apparently not home when the fire started. Residents in the front unit got out safely.
Firefighters from Emporia and Americus were involved as well as the Reading Benefit Fire drone unit. Word on a cause and origination point are pending at this time.
7:35 am Monday: House fire in east Emporia under investigation
Emporia Fire is investigating after an early-morning house fire on the east side of town.
Firefighters have been at 1225 Exchange battling the fire. So far, there are no indications about the cause or origination point. Firefighters have activated a drone as part of their investigation.
