The Kansas City Chiefs escaped with a 17-14 win over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, Clinching the number 1 seed in the AFC playoffs and a 1st round bye.
Atlanta missed a field goal that would have tied the game in the closing seconds.
Patrick Mahomes threw two touchdown passes but said the defense won the game.
Mahomes threw a 25-yard strike to Demarcus Robinson gave the Chiefs a 17-14 lead.
Mahomes also connected with Travis Kelce just before halftime.
Kelce had 7 catches for 98 yards, he became the first tight end in NFL history and the first player in Chiefs history with multiple 100-catch seasons when he hauled in his second pass of the game. He also broke the record for most receiving yards for a tight end in a season.
Chiefs Coach Andy Reid said he needs to do a better job of calling plays.
The Chiefs will close out the regular season next Sunday when they host the Los Angeles Chargers.
