A wet afternoon is ahead after isolated slick travels earlier Tuesday.
Wet and occasionally freezing precipitation covered the area for much of the morning. Thankfully, temperatures in and immediately around Emporia stayed at or above freezing through the morning, so icing was limited to residential areas, elevated surfaces like bridges and parking lots. Lyon County Highway Department crews went out for a time to spot-treat county roads, mainly in the northern third of the county. City crews were on standby all morning.
Wrecks were uncommon. In fact, the only reported crash across the KVOE listening area was a non-injury crash involving two semis on US Highway 50 outside Saffordville before 11 am.
Rain totals have been light to moderate.
*KVOE studios: 0.50 inches
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 0.42 inches
*Ninth and Lawrence: 0.50 inches
Another wintry mix is possible after midnight, although little to no accumulation is expected. Roads could freeze overnight with low temperatures possibly going to 31 degrees.
