Wintry weather may snarl traffic for a time Tuesday morning.
Moderate sleet started at the KVOE studios shortly after 4 am before changing quickly to rain. TV-13 meteorologist Doug Meyers says freezing rain is also possible before we get rainfall the rest of the day.
Anywhere from a glaze to 0.20 inches of ice are possible areawide. Snowfall accumulations now look to be an inch or less.
Road conditions as of 6 am are largely wet to seasonal with some exceptions on area highways. US Highway 56 between Admire and the Lyon-Osage County line is partly covered, as is Kansas Highway 99 from Admire north past Eskridge. Emporia city and Lyon County road crews are currently on standby.
Winter weather advisories continue until 1 pm for Lyon, Coffey, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties as well as Chase and Greenwood counties until 11 am.
Meyers says there is a slight chance for another wintry mix Tuesday night and early Wednesday, but little to no accumulation is expected. He’s more concerned about a potential refreeze with overnight lows right at or just below freezing.
