The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign faired far better than anyone anticipated this year despite some hurdles put in place by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Major Deb Thompson joined KVOE’s Morning Show Wednesday and announced this year’s grand total.
This year’s total surpassed the adjusted 2020 goal by more than $13,000 after the Salvation Army lowered the goal due to COVID concerns. In more good news this year’s total also surpassed the original fundraising goal of around $60,000.
Thompson credited not only those who gave generously to the cause but also those who gave their time to man the kettles this year. Thompson says they saw an influx of new volunteers step up this year, especially towards the end of the campaign.
She says those extra hands could not have come at a better time.
Traditionally speaking, Thompson says the campaign allows the Salvation Army to provide services to those in need for roughly three months.
