The list of changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic this year is a lengthy one, but one constant that continued this year was the generous caring nature of the local community.
With SOS’s annual holiday drive coming to an end spokesperson Kari Wedel says the organization was left in awe by the amount of compassion and caring demonstrated by local residents this year. According to Wedel, the organization was able to serve 46 families in their six-county service are including Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris and Wabaunsee counties.
She says through the generous donations they were able to provide for a number of needs including clothing, toys, household items and so much more this year.
Wedel says the generosity is even more appreciated this year than in years past given the amount of turmoil the pandemic has brought nationwide. Many of the families and individuals served by SOS are often in the midst of leaving an unsafe or violent situation.
She explains escaping these environments can often mean a complete restart for those they serve.
The holiday fundraising drive comes to an end as SOS is preparing to move into its new home at 1420 C of E Drive at the start of the new year.
