Bloom House has big goals to help youths that are either homeless or at risk of homelessness, but that’s because the need is big — and specific.
That’s the thought of Board President Clara Corn, who says Bloom House is helping with immediate needs while working towards two major brick-and-mortar projects.
Right now, Bloom House is helping by directing youths in need to services like Catholic Charities, KansasWorks, LCAT, food pantries and the like.
Currently, funding comes from community donations but does not rely on grants. Corn says that is important because Bloom House is not restricted in how it can help. Corn says Bloom House will seek grant funding for a shelter helping at-risk youth.
With Bloom House seeking a physical space for its services, it spent much of last month helping women staying at Plumb Place as that facility closed its doors after 100 years of serving women in crisis situations. Bloom House offered money for deposit checks, food, medicines and utilities. Plumb Place Board Vice President Brandy Nance says that help was very much appreciated.
Jensen Self-Store has also donated a storage unit so Bloom House can provide furniture.
