Typically, flu season ramping up by now.
That hasn’t happened yet, either at Flint Hills Community Health Center or Newman Regional Health. Health Center Chief Operating Officer Amanda Dreasher says its still early in the flu season.
Newman Regional Health CEO Bob Wright says “there has been no flu season” at the hospital so far.
Wright says the steps needed to avoid coronavirus — namely the use of masks and keeping six-foot social distancing spaces — are effective in limiting flu as well.
Health officials have been worried about a possible “twindemic” involving flu and coronavirus, in part because both viruses have similar symptoms and in part because of the impact a combined influx of cases could have on bed space. Nationwide, though, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reporting minimal flu activity across the country.
