Moderate rainfall earlier this week did nothing to improve the area’s drought conditions.
Moderate drought remains in place for Lyon and all surrounding counties. Central Greenwood County remains the only part of the KVOE listening area that is not in moderate drought, and that area is listed as abnormally dry.
Moderate drought has blanketed most of the area for better than a month. Area residents reported anywhere from an inch to 1.75 inches of rain Tuesday.
The US Drought Monitor’s next reporting date is this upcoming Thursday, so the impact of the New Year’s Day snowfall remains to be seen.
