The 2020 Flint Hills Optimist Club Christmas tree fundraiser may have been the club’s best so far.
Despite some minor adjustments due to the COVID-19 pandemic, club member Bob Burnheide says the fundraiser was phenomenal especially at the start.
The tree lot, as in years past, had a wide selection available to the public including Canadian Balsam, Fraser Fir, White Pine and Scotch Pine trees. When the dust settled, Burnheide says there were only 17 trees remaining all of which were under 6′ tall.
In total, the fundraiser generated more than $7,500 in proceeds with all funds going to benefit youth activities in the local area including services provided through Camp Alexander, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the David Traylor Zoo as well as providing scholarships for area students.
In addition to the tree sales, Burnheide says the lot sold all of its Garland and Christmas wreaths that were available for purchase.
