Nobody was hurt after a chimney fire north of Emporia well before sunrise Sunday.
Emporia Fire went to 1161 Road 220, about four miles north of Emporia, around 1:30 am. A planned fire was underway when fire developed further up the chimney.
Firefighters got the fire knocked down quickly. The fire was limited to the chimney, but there was smoke damage elsewhere in the house.
It’s the second fire involving a chimney in Lyon County in two weeks. Fire involving a chimney caused major damage to a house at 505 Exchange on Dec. 23. Firefighters are using both incidents to urge residents to have their chimneys checked specifically and also to have their heating sources checked in general.
