Families and students of USD 253 Emporia Public Schools can expect no changes when classes recommence for the district Tuesday.
USD 253 Community Relations Director Lyndel Landgren says the district’s learning model will continue in the same format as it was ahead of the Christmas break. This means all pre-K-second grade students will continue in-person education with third-12th grade continuing remote only learning.
Landgren is still encouraging families and students to sign up for the district’s remote lunch program, the application for which can be accessed by clicking here. Landgren says the district continued its daily cleaning and sanitation efforts over the holiday break and those will continue on a regular basis as the school year recommences.
The USD 253 Board of Education is scheduled to next convene on Jan. 13. According to Landgren that meeting will include an update from the district’s COVID-19 Advisory Committee including a look into community COVID-19 trends to assist the board in its decision making moving forward.
Other districts across the area are also gearing up for the start of the second half of the school year.
USD 284 Chase County resumed classes on Monday with USD 252 Southern Lyon County set to resume Tuesday. USD 386 Madison Virgil is set to resume classes on Wednesday with 251 North Lyon County welcoming students back on Thursday.
Sacred Heart Catholic School will be resuming the academic year Tuesday as Emporia Christian School is set to welcome back students on Wednesday.
