The recent bump in Lyon County’s coronavirus numbers aren’t going unnoticed by Public Health administrators.
Lyon County added almost 90 new cases, over 60 active cases and four deaths between Monday and Wednesday. Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern says supporting COVID numbers are also up recently.
Millbern says current data put Lyon County in “the red zone,” so it’s important to keep up with mitigation strategies like mask use and six-foot social distancing.
With test lines still available at Flint Hills Community Health Center, Newman Regional Health and the Fairgrounds Anderson Building, Millbern says people need to realize where they need to go for tests depending on their situation. Symptomatic patients or close contacts of confirmed cases should be done at the Health Center or Newman Regional Health.
Millbern also updated vaccinations for healthcare workers and other segments of the community. The Health Center received around 300 first-round vaccines through Moderna late last month for its frontline healthcare workers. There is also a pharmacy partnership between the federal government, CVS and Walgreens for long-term care facilities. Walgreens is the local partner and is distributing vaccines this week and next.
Millbern says vaccinations have gone to frontline healthcare workers, associated workers, Public Health staff and emergency responders. It still could be several months before vaccines are readily available for the general public.
