The Santa Fe Trail turns 200 years old this year and the Lyon County History Center is getting in on the festivities.
During his bi-weekly visit on KVOE’s Morning Show Wednesday, History Center Director Greg Jordan discussed the anniversary and the center’s role in the celebration. The Santa Fe Trail, which passes through the northern section of Lyon County, served as a vital commercial highway for travelers and traders from 1821 to 1880.
Jordan says there are still many tracks visible in the northern half of the county.
According to Jordan, the center will be holding several conversations and exhibits on the Santa Fe Trail throughout the year in celebration of the two-year anniversary. All exhibits and conversations will focus on the trail’s importance and impact on westward expansion.
