Three hundred members of the Kansas National Guard are deploying to Washington, DC, to help the growing security effort for President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration Wednesday.
Members of the First Battalion, 635th Armor Regiment, officially listed out of Kansas City but with a longstanding presence in Emporia, and 190th Air Refueling Wing, are among the units heading to the nation’s capital. The National Guard has not specified whether soldiers from the area will be deployed.
An estimated 20,000 National Guard soldiers from across the country are involved in the security detail.
