An early morning structure fire destroyed one building and damaged another east-southeast of Emporia Sunday.
According to Lyon County Deputy Jody Meyers, Sheriff’s Deputies, Emporia, Olpe and Hartford-Neosho Rapids fire crews were called to 1423 Road 160, just over six miles outside of Emporia, shortly after 5 am Sunday morning. According to Meyers when crews arrived they found one structure being used for storage fully engulfed in flames.
The fire quickly spread to an adjacent building before crews got it under control. The storage building was a complete loss, however, the second building only suffered damage to the walls and ceiling.
The cause and origination point of the fire is currently under investigation. Stay with KVOE, KVOE.com and KVOE social media for more updates as they become available.
