The Emporia Police investigation into a missing child continues Tuesday.
Police Sgt. Lisa Hayes says officers received numerous tips about the disappearance of 2-year-old Kyrese Cabrera-Downs, notably related to the location of his grandmother, 41-year-old Jessica Downs. Hayes says there were tips the youngster was delivered to his biological father, Devin Downs, in Augusta. Augusta Police interviewed the older Downs, who allowed a search of his home. The child was not found.
Later, tips led authorities to Topeka, where officers say Jessica Downs had been spotted at a gas station. Topeka Police responded but did not find either grandmother or child.
As the investigation continues, Emporia Police are now treating the case as a felony-level aggravated interference with parental custody incident. Hayes says the case has not reached the level of an AMBER Alert because there is still no indication of abduction or imminent danger to the child.
