Area Superintendents continue to report solid starts to the spring semester despite the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
USD 252 Southern Lyon County Superintendent Mike Argabright on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Tuesday stated “we’re doing pretty well” up to this point. Argabright credited staff and the district’s COVID-19 learning plan for this success calling the plan a “fluid” document that has allowed the district to adjust as needed to pandemic related concerns.
Argabright says not everything has been smooth sailing, however, there were some early concerns the district had with certain mitigation strategies that turned out to be less warranted than originally anticipated. Argabright says chief among those was student mask usage.
In terms of major challenges, Argabright says delivering two different platforms of instruction — in-person and remote — was difficult at the onset but teachers and staff managed to get into a rhythm during the fall semester which should carry over into the current term.
Argabright adds that when it comes to extracurricular activities, aside from just athletics, the district again has adapted well to ensuring everyone is safe and secure. He pointed to Quiz Bowl and Speech and Debate as examples of how the district has placed a larger focus on spreading kids out and utilizing more of a facility than they had before.
KVOE will continue its series of interviews with area Superintendents as part of the Morning Show as the school year continues to unfold.
