Two big wins over Washburn for the Emporia State basketball teams Saturday.
The Emporia State women outscored Washburn 64-55.
The Lady Hornets used a 16-0 run in the first half to build a 10 point lead and never trailed the rest of the game.
Coach Toby Wynn said the defense set the tone.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game-high 21 points to lead Emporia State. Karsen Schult added 16 points and Ehlaina Hartman finished with 15 points. With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 8-2.
The Emporia State men outscored number 7 ranked Washburn 91-74 to hand the Ichabods their 2nd loss of the season.
Dallas Bailey made 4 three-point shots in the first half as the two teams battled to a 43-43 tie at halftime.
To start the 2nd half Emporia State went on a 10-0 run. Washburn cut the deficit to 1 at 62-61. Emporia State answered with a 16-0 run and never trailed the rest of the game.
Coach Craig Doty called it a solid effort.
Jumah’Ri Turner led the Hornets with 17 points.
Dallas Bailey finished with 17 points, Austin Downing added 15 points and Gage McGuire scored 13 points.
The Hornets with the win improve to 7-6.
Emporia State plays at Central Oklahoma on Thursday.
