Overall, December was a good month for the state’s jobless rates.
The Department of Labor says December’s unemployment rate was 3.8 percent, down from 5.1 percent in November. Senior Economist Emilie Doerksen says the private sector category had solid, although tempered growth.
Locally, Emporia’s jobless rate dipped from 4.1 percent in November to 3.5 percent last month. Lyon County went from 4.1 percent to 3.4 percent month-to-month.
All neighboring counties had declines of at least 0.40 percentage points on a month-to-month basis. Morris County now has the lowest areawide unemployment rate at 2.3 percent. Osage County has the highest at 3.5 percent.
