The Olpe Lady Eagles and Lebo Wolves were the loan teams standing at the conclusion of the 100th annual Lyon County League Basketball Tournament Saturday night.
In the girl’s game, Olpe took an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Lebo Lady Wolves 58-31.
Olpe managed to hold Lebo to just three points in the first quarter and would outscore the Lady Wolves 15-10 to take a 32-13 lead into the half. Olpe would go on to outscore Lebo 26-18 overall in the second half as they claimed their fourth consecutive Lyon County League title.
Olpe was led in scoring by senior Macy Smith with 16 points.
Fellow senior Marley Heins also ended the night in double digits with 15. Head Coach Jesse Nelson says he has some very special players on his team.
Lebo freshman Audrey Peek led her team in scoring with 10 points on the night.
In the boy’s game, Lebo got out to an early lead and never trailed as they defeated Olpe 47-39 to win their first league title since 2012.
Lebo held Olpe to just four points in the first quarter and despite being outscored 7-5 in the second took a 13 point lead into the half 24-11. In the second half, Olpe started to pick up steam and came as close as three points to tying the ball game, but could never overtake the lead.
Lebo was led in scoring by senior Devan McEwen with 28 points on the night. McEwen says his team had one sole focus heading into the league tournament.
Head Coach Dwayne Paul says confidence was key to his team’s victory.
Olpe was led in scoring by senior Jordan Barnard with 12 points.
