Kansas started the calendar year and passed the midway point of the fiscal year with solid financial numbers.
The Department of Revenue says January sales tax receipts went above $795 million. That total went almost 10 percent above last January’s monthly total and almost 13 percent above estimates.
Individual income collections, corporate collections, retail taxes and compensating use collections all surpassed expectations.
Governor Laura Kelly says she is pleased with the data, but she says her administration will keep a close eye on all tax legislation coming to her. The governor says it’s important to make sure the state economy recovers from COVID-19 and grows after the current pandemic is over.
