Engine damage was enough to make a car a total loss after a fire in southeast Emporia on Tuesday.
Emporia firefighters went to 501 Sylvan around 4:15 pm. Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says the driver was inside the house to visit family when the fire started inside her car’s engine compartment.
The cause is undetermined, but Fuller says there was likely some sort of malfunction involved.
