The traffic flow is shifting for westbound drivers on West Sixth as a major infrastructure project continues in west-central Emporia.
City crews are continuing their work on the Elm Street waterline replacement project, and they are now going under West Sixth from north to south. This has constricted westbound traffic now for around two weeks, and now that single lane of traffic is using the eastbound inside lane at Elm.
Eastbound traffic has been down to one lane the last two weeks as well. It is still using the eastbound outside lane to get around the work zone.
The overall project is installing a new waterline underneath Elm from Sixth to Newman Regional Health, with a related waterline replacement project underway now along Ninth between Elm and Lawrence. There is no official word on when this part of the project will be done. Overall, work could be completed by late this month or early March.
