Chase County managed to hold off a late flurry by Hartford to down the Jaguars 57-34 in the Area Game of the Week Friday night.
Solid shooting and strong defense would see Chase County shoot 7 of 11 from the field and hold Hartford to just five points as they built a 17-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs would again hold Hartford to just five points in the second to take a 28-10 lead into the half.
In the third quarter, Chase County would struggle early on as Hartford would begin to pick up steam and would keep pace with Chase County in scoring as both teams put up 12 in the third, however, Hartford could not contain the Bulldogs in the fourth as Chase County would outscore the Jaguars 17-12 to take the victory.
Chase County had three players end the night in double figures. Senior Owen Eidman led all scorers with 18 points.
Senior Lane Gilbreath added 13 and senior Blaise Holloway finished with 11.
Chase County Head Coach Cade Witte says it was a good win, but his team has to do a better job of maintaining their intensity through all four quarters.
Hartford was led in scoring by sophomore Ali Smith with nine points.
Chase County now improves to 8-6 on the year as Hartford drops to 3-13.
The Chase County girls played Atchison County. Atchison County won the game 50-36.
