Light snow and freezing drizzle are possible Monday, while biting cold is guaranteed all this week.
Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage and Wabaunsee counties are now in winter weather advisories until 3 pm. Up to half an inch of snow and freezing drizzle are possible through at least mid-afternoon.
It’s the latest possibility for light wintry precipitation across the area. KVOE listeners got a dusting to an inch of snowfall Sunday and anywhere from 0.20-1.4 inches of snowfall Saturday. Travel is slow going across Emporia, with the dusting of snow covering all streets and hiding already slick spots on residential collectors and side streets. City, county and KDOT road crews are out, but the dry snow is problematic, according to Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods.
In addition, the road treatment materials used locally are largely ineffective at temperatures below 20 degrees unless there is some sunshine, and that may be in short supply until late this week.
Travel is also not up to full speed on area highways for the late night and early morning hours. Check KanDrive.org for details.
