Wintry weather will be sticking around the listening area a bit longer than anticipated.
The National Weather Service has extended a winter weather advisory for Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties until 9 pm this evening. A separate advisory for Greenwood County also continues until 9 pm.
Advisories for Chase and Morris counties continue until 3 pm.
A third consecutive day of light snowfall coupled with freezing drizzle has made travel difficult in the listening area throughout the day Monday. Conditions have been slick in town and across the county with numerous slide-off accidents reported since around sunrise Monday morning.
No injuries have been reported with crashes so far. Area highways are all partly to completely covered, according to KanDrive.org.

*USD 245 Southern Coffey County open but students will not be counted absent or tardy if they miss class

11 am Monday: Light snow, freezing drizzle leads to third straight day of travel woes areawide
Slow down if you have to drive. Stay home if you don’t.
That’s the advice from highway officials and law enforcement, even with less than three inches of snowfall on the ground from three different events. Conditions are slick after separate snowfalls Saturday and Sunday — as well as a mix of snow and freezing drizzle Monday.
City, county and KDOT crews have all been out Monday morning. Lyon County Engineer Chip Woods is reminding drivers to pay attention to the conditions and to give enough space so snowplow drivers can safely do their jobs.
Numerous reports of slideoff crashes started coming in around sunrise, and those have continued both in Lyon County and in neighboring counties. No injuries have been reported with crashes so far. Area highways are all partly to completely covered, according to KanDrive.org.
