Parts of the KVOE listening area are dealing with their second winter weather advisory in three days.
Coffey and Osage counties are an advisory until 11 am Monday, while Greenwood County is in a separate advisory until noon. A mix of snow and freezing drizzle, perhaps up to an inch of total accumulation, is possible in Coffey and Osage counties. A thin glaze of freezing drizzle is possible in Greenwood County. Other area counties, Lyon County included, may see up to an inch of light snowfall through Monday morning.
It’s the latest possibility for light wintry precipitation across the area. KVOE listeners got a dusting of snowfall Sunday and anywhere from 0.20-1.4 inches of snowfall Saturday. Travel is slow going across Emporia, with the dusting of snow covering all streets and hiding already slick spots on residential collectors and side streets.
Travel is also not up to full speed on area highways for the late night and early morning hours:
*Seasonal driving conditions are evident on the Kansas Turnpike south of Emporia; Interstate 35 from Emporia to the Kansas Highway 130 junction; US Highway 50 west of Emporia; US Highway 56 west of Admire; US Highway 75 north of Melvern; Kansas Highway 99 south of Admire; Kansas Highway 130 south of Interstate 35; Kansas Highway 170 from K-99 to Reading; Kansas Highway 177 north of Cottonwood Falle; Kansas Highway 58 east of Madison
*Partly covered highways include Interstate 35 east of K-130; US-56 east of Admire; US-75 south of Interstate 35; K-99 north of Admire; K-177 south of Cottonwood Falls
*Completely covered highways include Kansas Highway 31 east of K-99
Travel issues developed during and after both the weekend snowfall events, with numerous slide-off or fender-bender crashes across the area Saturday and a smaller amount of crashes Sunday.
Several schedule adjustments have already been announced for Monday. Click here for the list.
