Central Missouri outscored the Emporia State womens basketball team 79-72 in a matchup of top 25 teams Tuesday night.
The 20th ranked Jennies jumped out to a 13-3 lead and the 25th ranked Emporia State Lady Hornets had to play catch up most of the night.
Emporia State did take a 49-44 lead in the 3rd quarter and trailed by 3 with 16 seconds to play.
Central would make 9 of 10 free throws in the final 42 seconds.
Emporia State struggled from the three-point line making 9 of 34 attempts.
The Lady Hornets were also outrebounded 48-31. Central had 15 offensive rebounds and outscored Emporia State 18-10 on second-chance points.
Emporia State did score 17 points off of 17 Central turnovers.
Coach Toby Wynn called it a disappointing night.
All 5 starters scored in double-figures for Emporia State led by Tre’Zure Jobe with 21 points despite making 1 of 14 three-point attempts. Karsen Schulz finished with 16 points. Fredricka Sheats had her 3rd double-double of the season finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Daley Handy and Ehlaina Hartman both finished with 10 points.
The Emporia State women fall to 12-4 for the season. They are scheduled to host Lincoln Thursday night.
