Travel conditions have improved somewhat after three straight days of light snowfall across the KVOE listening area.
In Emporia, major arterial streets are seasonal with some slick spots. Residential collector streets are seasonal to partly covered, while side streets, intersections and parking lots are covered and slick. Highway travel is also better than Monday, when highways were partly to completely covered. Normal to seasonal conditions are more prevalent Tuesday morning.
City and county road crews will re-evaluate their road treatment options and plans Tuesday morning after spending much of Monday out treating streets. Materials used by the city of Emporia and Lyon County need temperatures in the low 20s, lots of traffic and at least partly sunny conditions to be effective. High temperatures now look to be under 20 degrees through the upcoming weekend and cloudy conditions may rule until perhaps Sunday.
Having said that, County Engineer Chip Woods is asking drivers to respect the work snowplow drivers are doing when they are out and about.
Numerous area school districts are delaying school Tuesday after delaying or canceling school Monday. Click here for the KVOE.com Closings and Cancellations page.
