A combination of snow, wind and cold will make Sunday a day to stay indoors if at all possible.
Light to moderate snow could be underway by sunrise and may well continue until late Sunday night. Totals may range from 2-6 inches across the KVOE listening area, with higher totals just south of Interstate 35 and the Kansas Turnpike.
The snow will be dry and powdery. Winds as high as 25 mph won’t lead to blizzard conditions, but widespread visibility issues will be likely. On top of that, wind chills could be -15 or lower all day. Wind chills will drop to -20 to -30 overnight as the snow ends.
Monday won’t be much better, with a high temperature of 4 and wind chills from -15 to -25. Monday night’s low is expected around -13 with wind chills possible around -20.
Numerous weather alerts are up areawide. Lyon and most surrounding counties are in a winter weather advisory and wind chill advisory until 12 am Monday. Ther counties are also in a wind chill watch from 12 am Monday to 12 pm Tuesday. Chase and Greenwood counties are also in a winter weather advisory until 12 am Monday but they are in a wind chill watch from 6 am Monday to 12 pm Tuesday.
