As efforts continue to conserve natural gas due to the historic low temperatures, the Kansas Gas Service is now making a request of so-called “large use customers.”
Kansas Gas is asking these customers to lower their usage to “plant protection mode” the lowest level of usage possible for customers that will still protect pipes and equipment.
Kansas Gas Spokesperson Dawn Tripp says this applies to all customers under the classification of large commercial, industrial and transport customers.
Again Tripp says Kansas Gas is still asking local residents to continue monitoring their usage.
There are some exemptions to the request. According to Tripp the curtailment request does not apply to schools, hospitals, health care facilities, hotels or lodging facilities, grocery stores, universities, colleges, churches, public safety buildings, multi-family dwellings and apartments.
Tripp says it is uncertain at this time how long conservation efforts will need to continue, however, Kansas Gas is keeping a close watch over the situation and will have updates as they become available on its website at Kansasgasservice.com.
