Travel conditions are slow areawide after light snowfall Sunday and Monday.
In Emporia, major arterials are partly to mostly snow-covered. Residential collectors are mostly to completely covered. Side streets are completely covered.
Most area highways are mostly to completely covered. The exceptions are Interstate 35 east of Neosho Rapids, US Highway 50 west of Saffordville and US Highway 75 south of BETO Junction. Those highways are listed as seasonal with isolated slick spots.
Travel conditions may improve through the day even as temperatures struggle to reach 10 above. Abundant sunshine will help traction materials clear some areas through the day.
Issues of another sort are slowing travel across town. The rolling blackouts moving across the Evergy system have now impacted many local stoplights. Police Lt. Kevin Risley says drivers need to consider offline stoplights as four-way stops. This is in addition to the light at 18th and Industrial, which hasn’t been functioning since around 7:30 am.
