Governor Laura Kelly has announced an adjustment in the state’s COVID-19 vaccination plan.
During a news conference Wednesday, Kelly said the state will set aside some vaccine supplies for education staff as a way to either keep students in classrooms or get more students into in-person learning.
This follows similar moves at the county level, including Lyon County — which started that approach earlier this month.
Kelly says the vaccines for education staff will be on top of doses already coming in for Phase 2-eligible residents, and this is possible because of better vaccine supply. A month ago, the state received 45,000 doses a week. The current number has doubled that. Kelly says the state could receive around 115,000 doses per week soon. Pharmacy partners in the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program are getting up to 10,000 doses a week as part of a separate vaccine stream, and those partners are giving their unused doses to the state so more people can get vaccinated.
