Fire led to significant interior damage at an Emporia house Wednesday afternoon.
Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says crews were called to 412 Constitution around 4 pm. Light smoke was coming from the eaves around the house when they arrived.
Early estimates have about $20,000 in damage. A cause is currently under investigation.
Steinlage says the resident got out safely and all pets inside were also saved. No injuries were reported.
Steinlage says firefighters had to take a few extra precautions with afternoon temperatures around 20 degrees. Firefighters had to take extra precautions with the ice that developed outside. They also had to leave their hoses open more than normal to make sure they didn’t freeze.
