Some $200 million in rental assistance is now available for Kansas residents facing evictions and resulting homelessness.
Governor Laura Kelly says the initiative is funded through the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021. this lets residents having issues covering rent and utility payments to qualify for up to a year’s worth of emergency help.
The Kansas Housing Resources Corporation and the city of Wichita are administering the program, but people outside the Wichita city limits can apply through the Kansas Emergency Rental Assistance program through March 15. Click here for the link to the information page.
Tenants can qualify if they earn no more than 80 percent of their area’s median income and can document financial hardship due to COVID-19.
This program follows the $20 million Kansas Eviction Prevention Program funded by federal CARES Act funding last year.
