The Kansas Department of Transportation is announcing a series of state-funded projects for pedestrian and cycling networks, and improvements are coming to parts of the KVOE listening area as a result.
Council Grove will get $75,000 for design work on a Safe Routes to School project as part of the state’s Transportation Alternatives program. Strong City, meanwhile, gets over $292,000 for construction on its Safe Routes to School work.
The Flint Hills Nature Trail, meanwhile, gets nearly $6 million for work connecting the trail to the Prairie Spirit trail in Ottawa. The trail stretches from Herington to Osawatomie and goes through Morris, Lyon and Osage counties along the way.
The Transportation Alternative program focuses state money on projects that design and build out safe, accessible and connected walking and cycling networks. In all, over $13 million was designated for projects Thursday.
