One more day of energy conservation.
That’s the request from the Southwest Power Pool, which spent much of Thursday without any energy alert before going to a Level 1 situation in the early evening hours. The regional authority is not asking for the service interruptions we saw Monday and Tuesday with short-term outages lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours, but it says it is doing its best to meet the expected demand for electricity. It also says utilities should still operate “with heightened awareness of possible contingencies.” because of the ongoing weather impact this week.
Evergy returned to normal operations Thursday afternoon before the Power Pool announcement and has not announced any changes since then.
Kansas has avoided rolling blackouts since Tuesday morning, but Oklahoma and Texas have had extended problems all week as natural gas facilities froze up and have not yet returned to normal operations.
