Newman Regional Health has received a $100,000 grant to assist with COVID-19 inpatient care expenses.
The hospital announced Tuesday it had been named the recipient of a grant from the Patterson Family Foundation. The grant funds are intended to be used for covering the cost of pandemic-related equipment, supplies and PPE.
The Kansas City-based foundation is focused on assisting rural communities in Kansas and Missouri. The funds will be used to purchase equipment that will allow Newman to provide obstetrical care for COVID-19 positive mothers, as well as, medical-surgical care to COVID-19 positive patients in the hospital’s intensive care and medical-surgical units.
Newman Chief Operating Officer Julia Pyle says in a media release, “We are thankful for the opportunity this grant provides in ensuring we continue to meet our vision to be a valued, trusted partner and regional provider of exemplary services.”
To qualify for the grant, eligible recipients had to meet a number of criteria including:
* Be a rural-serving hospital in a Kansas or Missouri county with less than a 50,000 total population within a specified region
* Be a nonprofit, or have a related charitable nonprofit entity that can receive the donation
* Provide inpatient care for patients with COVID-19 (will be verified using state-level public health data)
* Have obtained formal price quotes for the equipment or supplies and validated a timely delivery and installation upon purchase
* Can attest to having the appropriately licensed staff in place to operate any equipment that will be purchased using these funds.
