Plans are now in place for COVID-19 prime vaccination clinics in Emporia this week after bad weather last week.
Newman Regional Health and Haag Pharmacy will serve as distribution points and partners with Flint Hills Community Health Center. The hospital is vaccinating 500 patients Vaccinations will take place Friday at the Newman Conference Center, which is on the second floor inside Entrance C.
McKenzie Cinelli of Newman Regional Health says this development provides hope that the county can continue to swiftly move through the vaccination phases.
Cinelli is continuing to encourage residents to get their names on the vaccination waiting list as soon as possible for upcoming and future vaccination pods.
Newman’s clinic is scheduled to take place Friday from 7 am to 6 pm.
Haag Pharmacy is vaccinating 100 patients from 9 am to 4 pm Friday and Monday at the business, 1400 West 12th. Owner Amber Haag says this is a step she had anticipated since vaccines were approved.
Both are partnering with the Health Center because the prime doses for a clinic originally set for last week couldn’t arrive due to severe winter weather. The Health Center rescheduled the Feb. 19 secondary pod to Thursday, forcing a tentative cancellation of the prime clinic originally set for Thursday. It’s the first time the Health Center has connected with local health partners to get people vaccinated.
Newman Regional Health and Haag are using the Health Center’s wait list to schedule patients.
While those clinics are underway, the Health Center will be busy with revaccinations. As mentioned, last week’s rescheduled pod is Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm. Friday’s regularly-scheduled revax pod is also from 9 am to 5 pm. Both clinics are at the Bowyer Building.
Meanwhile, the Health Center says this may be the last week of vaccination clinics at the Bowyer Building. CEO Renee Hively says the plan is to start pods at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. The schedule for next week hasn’t been announced.
